How Do I Love Thee?

How do I love thee?
Let me count the ways …

I kiss you in the morning
Before you even brush
You don't scold me
When the toilet I don't flush

I sort the socks,
Even with matches few and far between
You scrape the car of snow and ice
And make sure that it's clean

I put miserable children to bed
You wake their cranky heads
I dust, you mop
I flip, you flop

Even when I roughly
Tweeze your ingrown hairs
You scratch my back
With lots of care

We are on different pages
From two different books
Which explains many arguments
And murderous looks

But I am glad that I'm here
I hope you are too
Better roti than caviar
As long as it's with you.

In Passing

A stranger you were to me, an unfamiliar face in an unfamiliar place

My eyes locked on you

In passing

I held onto the moment and looked into your eyes for a time that seemed too short

I wanted to see you my whole life

In that moment in your eyes I fell deep, dark brown and gentle

Now I'm back in time admiring your royalty

You were a king, a majestic force that sat on the right hand of the almighty

He took your rib to create me, deep, dark brown and gentle

I've entered into your castle and have found my throne next to the chair of where you used to sit

I've dressed myself in the finest cloth, showered in the sweetest perfume, cleansed my heart of everything but you

I wear the crown passed down to me with an upright stance, my feet placed firmly and my head held high

So I'm searching your castle and you're nowhere to be found, which brings me back to this very moment in time

For reasons I can't explain clearly to you

I realize now that I've known you my whole life

A piece of me I never knew missing until I saw you

In passing

Souls of God

Something, some force I do not know

Trembling in soul, falling to knees

Heart pounding cannot sit still

Your eyes, cannot resist

Your beauty, your smell melts my sins

Loving you is all I see

Being with you is all I need

My life is fulfilled

You and me our Souls will combine

Together we are

A life that we will begin.
